What are they?
Organic cotton is grown without the use of harmful insecticides, weeds and fertilizers. It is free of formaldehyde from finishing and chlorine bleaching. Therefore, it is softer and more durable. Cotton products grown without harmful chemicals are also more biodegradable.
Industrial cotton cultivation is one of the world's biggest polluters. 25% of the world's insecticide and over 10% of plant protection products (including herbicides, insecticides and defoliants) are used there! 150 g of chemicals (pesticides and fertilizers) are used in the traditional cotton industry for cotton grown to produce one shirt.
Non-organic cotton is often characterized as a natural material, although it has been highly cultivated and processed, causing groundwater pollution and food chain poisoning. Organic cotton fits well on the skin and is an excellent breathable material, unlike synthetic fabric, which causes allergies, static electricity, and sweating. The high amount of chemicals used in the cultivation of industrial cotton eventually reaches the end product, or clothing, which can also cause various skin irritations.
